Community Leadership Award 

The  2010 Community Leadership Award is given to recognize individuals in the Southern California community who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting and enhancing the quality of life for African Americans and other minorities.

 

 

 

 

Lt. Col Miguel Howe - US Army

Lieutenant Colonel Miguel D. Howe assumed command of the Southern California Recruiting Battalion on April 18, 2008.

Lieutenant Colonel Howe is a Special Forces officer that has commanded special operations forces on numerous deployments throughout Latin America with the 7th Special Forces Group. He has served in conventional, joint, interagency, multinational, Army staff and special operations assignments.

His first assignment was as an infantryman with the 25 th ID (L) at Schofield Barracks Hawaii where he served as a rifle platoon leader in 3rd/22 nd Infantry, executive officer for the Long Range Surveillance Detachment, and commander of the Light Infantry Training Center.

Upon graduation from the Special Forces Qualification Course he was assigned to the 7 th Special Forces Group where he served as the commander of Special Forces Detachment Alpha - 766, the assistant Group operations officer, commander Bravo Company and Battalion S3, 2 nd/7 th Special Forces.

LTC Howe has also served in NATO where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the Chief of Staff for the NATO Training Mission in Al Rustamiyah Iraq.

LTC Howe was selected to serve in Washington DC as a White House Fellow and special assistant to the CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) - a new and innovative government Corporation responsible for poverty reduction through economic growth in low income countries.

His other assignments include Chief, Special Operations Enlisted Branch, Human Resources Command, and most recently as the Special Operations Forces Colonels Human Resource Manager within the Senior Leader Development Office, Office of the Chief of Staff of the Army.

LTC Howe is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, and has a Master of Arts in National Security Studies, from Georgetown University. He is married to the former Erica C. Emmart and they have two children, Nicholas 9 and Haley 7 .
