Professional Background
1999- Present Date : Work enthusiastically as the president of an 1850-active member and 500-retired member law enforcement labor organization, the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs (AOCDS) in Santa Ana, California with the following responsibilities:
- Chief executive officer of the AOCDS thus empowered to supervise and control the affairs of the AOCDS Corporation.
- Establish annual organizational goals and objectives with respect to wages, hours and other terms and conditions of member’s employment.
- Oversee AOCDS Board of Directors’ and Medical Trustees’ monthly meetings.
- Work collaboratively with the County of Orange in negotiating labor contracts through collective bargaining.
- Seek legislation necessary or conductive to the well being of the members and to play an active role in the political arena in the furtherance of the interests of the membership.
- Actively participate in leadership roles for the betterment of law enforcement officers and their families throughout the State of California:
- President, California Coalition of Law Enforcement Associations
- President, California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation
- Treasurer, California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation
- Secretary, Golden Badge Foundation
1982-2010 : I began my 28.4 year law enforcement career with the Orange County (CA) Sheriff’s Department and have worked my way through the ranks. I have worked a variety of positions that have offered diverse and cross-cultural environments:
- Deputy Sheriff I and Deputy Sheriff II working the County courthouses and jail facilities, patrol, transportation and the training academy.
- Investigator working general crimes, sex crimes and child abuse crimes.
- Sergeant supervising numerous deputies and investigators in the jail, transportation and investigation areas of the department
- Awarded the Sheriff’s Department’s second highest medal (Courage) for taking a machete yielding intoxicated suspect into custody without the use of deadly force (March 1993)
Personal
- Married to Tammy for over 27-years.
- Two adult children, Wayne III and Kevin. Both are University of California college graduates and Wayne III received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law in May of 2010.
